Sick Building Syndrome
Sick Building Syndrome refers to the symptoms experienced by employees specifically at the workplace. These include:
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty maintaining a train of thought
  • Itching or rash
  • Irritated eyes and nose
  • Extreme tiredness

It is important that employers provide a safe and healthy workplace for their employees. So important, in fact, that in 1986 the World Health Organization (WHO) identified Sick Building Syndrome as a recognizable disease.

Once it is determined that this sickness is stemming directly from being at the workplace, several steps must be taken to identify and rectify the problem. Ventilation, lighting, temperature, humidity, pollutants, and airborne contaminants all contribute to the condition of the environment. Dust and Hazardous Particulate can contribute most to Sick Building Syndrome. Asbestos Containing Materials always present a problem to workers.

The MT-3 Portable Isolation Enclosure is the best solution for managing dust and particulate in situations involving Sick Building Syndrome. The MT-3 can be used to prevent SBS caused by dust and particulate. Instead of releasing hazardous dust into the air during regular Operations and Maintenance, the MT-3 captures the dangerous particulate. Employees are not exposed to any of the particulate produced in the process, and the building can remain occupied despite the ongoing maintenance.

Asbestos Containing Materials, especially those that are friable, can cause SBS. Friable is defined by the EPA as material containing more than 1% asbestos that, when dry, can be crumbled, pulverized or reduced to powder by hand pressure. This fibrous powder causes a number of symptoms in employees, and respiratory diseases and cancers are also possible effects of exposure.
